Kohn Gallery Now Represents Gonzalo Lebrija
by Annie Armstrong
Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles now represents Guadalajara, Mexico–based artist Gonzalo Lebrija, who is perhaps best known for his painting series “Veladuras,” in which he layers shades of paint to create geometric abstractions.
Paintings by the artist will be part of the gallery’s offering at this year’s Art Basel Miami, which opens next week. (The booth will also have pieces by Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Tony Berlant, Joe Goode, and Lita Albuquerque.)
Michael Kohn, the gallery’s owner, told ARTnews in an email, “Gonzalo Lebrija has a rich history to this point in his career, and his work is as conceptually rigorous as it is visually elegant.”
This coming January, the Kohn will host a solo show of the artist’s work. Kohn continued, “His international presence in the art scene provides additional depth to our growing roster of talent. This type of accomplished artist is a perfect addition to the gallery.”
