People perceive the visible as real, and don’t distinguish between what is real versus what is perceived to be. We’re all subject to the influence of ‘hyperrealities’ being constructed around us.
These hyperrealities can evolve but our unconscious acceptance is unwavering. First, we’ll freely accept that eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day is how we stay healthy. Next, we accept it’s seven portions, without challenge. Unconscious to the actual ethereal influences that drive our decisions and behaviour we simply accept a new reality as fact, whereas it is merely a mental construct.
Using examples from the world of art, branding and advertising, Nir Wegrzyn will demonstrate how we create ‘hyperreality’; the mere physical existence of a well-executed piece, prompting us to accept it as real.
Acclaimed artist Ori Gersht focuses on the perception of reality, demonstrating how carefully curated content is stronger than explicit messaging. Images provoke and allow the audience to complete the story, creating a more engaged response.
